Are our lives subject to fate or do we have free will? I think both.
The kayaker in a river has free will to paddle fast or slow; navigate with abandon slamming into boulders, or avoid them with caution; proceed with haste, or dawdle in the quiet eddies. Like the kayaker in a river we are free to decide, from moment to moment, how we will navigate our lives.
But, just as with rivers, much about the course of our lives is predetermined by circumstances beyond our control. To what extent might be subject to opinion; but, one is obviously a matter of fate – the place of our birth, and to whom we are born. Those are our headwaters.
Welcome to the river Mike.
